Der Krampus by lord-phillock Der Krampus by lord-phillock
For any of you who don't know... December 5 and 6 were an important date for me as a child, because, growing up in Austria, we have a tradition that features this hellish being (albeit not so intense of BURSTING EVIL as I painted) and his buddy, the wonderful St. Nicholaus.

To know more about this nostalgic and very christmasy guy, please click my LINK: [link]

Merry Christmas!

Oh also, I was listening to this while painting the initial picture: [link] It fits perfectly (in my opinion)

Were there ever any naughty kids in Austria?

I can't imagine anyone would act up with the "abduct naughty children and eat them" figure hanging over their heads all year

You better not run
You better not cry
The Krampus is coming
You're gonna die

At midnight tonight
You'll be filled with fright
For it's heart is cold
From the days of old

It'll always be back
Get ready for a trip

Down to hell you'll go
In a deep, dark pit you shall lie
You shall scram and howl
And ask "Why?"

On the holiest night
Fools will feel it's might
Beware on Chrismas night
For the Krampus may just bite

Beautifully done! I feel too many people take away from the fact that he is a nature spirit, and because of that he always looks so human to me. This is incredible, and I totally envy your skill. I can't create anything from scratch, though I've tried several times.

I especially love the way you did the lighting. I'm glad I don't have horns, I'd constantly skewer myself :(

A lovely comment. Thank you very much. :worship: horns would be very difficult to live with.

:O This reminds me of the beast from the Doctor Who episodes 'The Impossible Planet' and 'The Satan Pit'.
This, however, I profess, I find marginally more frightening. Which is saying both something about your skill level, and also my apparent fear of...everything, it seems. :S

Charlie wasn't a good boy. Two years of juvie hadn't cured him of that and three years of adult jail only made it worse.

Still, when he wanted to be, Charlie could be a real charmer to the ladies and after four hard years of looking in the right places he found Jenny, a widow with a son named Mikey and inheritance you've ever seen. With just his charm and a few nice smiles he talked his way into Jenny's heart. He proposed marriage and then two weeks after the honeymoon, his "dear" wife had a little accident. Gas leak. Very sad.

He would've been set for life if it wasn't for the damned kid. Apparently Jenny's will says that only her son and his legal guardian could control the family fortune. So poor Charlie was stuck with the little rugrat and no matter how many times he shipped the little bastard off to boarding school he kept coming home every Christmas. To make matters worse, the brat was relentless. Kept talking about how he knew Charlie killed his mother, how he knew he was a bad man and that one day the Krampus would get him.

One Christmas, Charlie got home from the bar to an empty house. No kid, no lights, nothing. He only spent a minute or two looking for the kid before he decided he actually didn't care. Let the little fucker freeze to death, he didn't care. All he cared about was switching on the football game and putting one more beer down his throat before bed.

But as he settled down on the couch he could swear he heard a tapping sound on the kitchen floor behind him. Soon Charlie felt the hot breath on his neck and he smelled the stink of brimstone. He turned to face his visitor, hoping it was just some nutcase burglar. He wasn't that lucky.

It was seven feet tall at least with ugly black fur everywhere but it's face and chest. A snout for a mouth and two sharp horns jutting out of it's hellborn face. It waved at Charlie with a bundle of small, thin sticks that looked like something a school teacher smacked you with.

When he saw it smile at him, Charlie knew he was a dead man.

"You've been a bad boy, Charlie." The creature said and Charlie saw a long, hideous tongue slide out of a fanged mouth, "A very bad boy."

The thing walked towards him and Charlie opened his mouth to scream.

The next day, they found what was left of Charlie in a bloody snow drift next to I-95. It was clearly murder but nobody looked very hard for the killer since just about everybody in town had a reason to want Charlie gone. So the police never officially closed the case and claimed that the "investigation was on going."

Every few years a rookie detective would get interested in Charlie's death and tried to find the culprit. They'd go talk to all the old witnesses and ask the same questions. Eventually they'd get to Charlie's stepson Mikey and they'd ask him who killed Charlie. They always got the same answer:

"The Krampus got him."

This has made my day. The colors are so wonderfully vivid and bold around the face, especially the eye. Great work reminds me of a friend’s grandfather every December telling stories of St. Nicholas and his companion ;)

in Belgium St. Nicholaus has as buddy a guy called "Père fouettard", who birches children having been naughty.

Duuude, if this guy came for Christmas.... I'm not sure I whether I would be absolutely terrified or filled with a manic glee. I can just see shops setting up figures of this guy and while Christmas carols play over the speakers. It puts me in a fit of giggles. XD

But seriously, great job on the slimeyness of his tongue and the gross looking scabby kinda face, that's awesome.!

Phenomenal! Probably the most sinister rendering I’ve ever seen! I think America should have embraced the idea of the Krampus. It would have such a great impact on kids. Forget the lump of coal! Let 'em square up with this guy!

While I've never been that much in Austria, I'm still of austrian blood. My grandmother is austrian and I heared much about Krampus from her when I was a kid. I thought he sounded awesome and I imagined Krampus showing up and taking away the assholes who bullied me.:D I've seen several Krampus-drawings on DA this year, but this is one of the best and without a doubt one of the most hellish. Good job.:-)

*reads Wikipedia page* Wow. Gosh. Hell? He takes children to HELL? Merry flippin' Christmas! In America, Santa just puts coal in your stocking; in Austria, he lights it on fire and Der Krampus stuffs little Maximillian into it! Joy to the World....

All else aside, it's an excellent painting. I like the blotchiness of the light and background colors. You're good with monsters.

Awesome painting, by the way. The faint, red light really makes the painting seem very creepy (in a good way lol ). :D
